Cookies are regulated by several laws, and in particular, Directive 2002/58/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 July 2002 concerning the processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector; Directive 2008/63/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 20 June 2008 on competition in the markets in telecommunications terminal equipment; European Data Protection Regulation No. 2016/679; and French Law n° 78-17 of 6 January 1978 "Informatique et Libertés" in its amended version.

Within the meaning of these laws, a cookie is a piece of information, usually small and identified by a name, which may be sent to your browser by a website you are visiting. Your web browser will store it for a certain period of time, and send it back to the web server each time you log on again. Cookies have many uses: they can be technical and functional, or they can be used to memorise your customer ID, for statistical or advertising purposes or for marketing purposes.
